I bought the same backpack 4 years ago for carry-on only travel. Backpack is super durable, very packable (think softsided suitcase). Very clean look and not a lot of people have this bag. I’ve had airport security officers like the security features on this bag once I show them how it works. Fairly heavy materials used but that is why it is durable. Been on a few month-long airbnb/hotel travels with it and certaily has enough space for packing light. I use a small additional day bag for city-specific walking. (Carry-on + personal item). With this bag, so far, I have never been flagged at the gate of a full flight to put the bag in the cargo hold. Always fits in overhead storage with personal item at my feet, all is good. Only thing is i have packed this so it weighs 16kg sometimes (with mentioned packing cubes) so be aware of what you need/want and airplane gate checking staff. 1 watterbottle holder on mine on the outside and 4 horizontal compression straps. Padded Top and side handles. Sternum strap and hip belt. Can carry for a few km from airport/trainstation/busstop with rests, best to find a café if you cannot check-in yet.

I usually keep my bag closed and zippers latched when it is in the hotel and I am out walking. Never know what cleaning staff are like I guess. Also had the security cable taken away in amsterdam airport…dunno why, maybe the security guy watched some killer movies recently and was feeling safe. I tried selling him the story that its for bag security…he didn’t bite. Maybe attach a TSA lock to the cable so you have a better case than I did.
All in all, nice bag. Price has certainly gone up, but I would buy one again now knowing how nice it is not having to think about my bag as much on the Athens metro. Front pouch (holds laptops apparently?) is almost useless to add items to, unless you pack it first before packing main pouch. Just what happens when you actually fill the bag to its limits. IMHO, nicer to carry a bag instead of trying to have a roller bag over europe’s cobblestones.
